A gag writer is a ghost writer who comes up with the idea for the cartoon and writes the caption. The cartoonist's name appears on the cartoon which is why most people think that the cartoonist always does both the drawing and the writing. Not always so.
Kelly has been published in many major and minor publications which are listed on the Experience page along with all the cartoonists she has written for over the years.
Kamowski writes business, legal, family, medical, education, and children's cartoons. She writes both funny and serious cartoons and worked on a special project with syndicated cartoonist Stephanie Piro about grief, mainly through a child's eyes and dealing with death and divorce.
She has also worked as a freelance copywriter for the now defunct Peacock Papers writing ideas for t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc.
Kelly grew up as an Air Force brat and has lived most notably on Guam. She is a single parent to Madeline and Max and lives with three cats and a dog Rosie. She has lived in the Chicago area for over 20 years but will always be a small town girl at heart.
Kamowski's "day job" is being an accountant and is a CPA. She has worked in the banking, nonprofit, hospitality, homebuilding, and brokerage industries which have provided a wealth of material.
"My true fulfillment in life comes from being a cartoon gag writer and coming up with an idea no one has ever thought of before, at least I hope so anyway. I've been published in most major publications. Not all my gags are funny. I have written a book of poignant cartoons about divorce in collaboration with syndicated cartoonist Stephanie Piro, who lives in New Hampshire. We have also worked on cartoons about death from a child's perspective. Stephanie is one of the Six Chix syndicated in 125 publications and is talented in many other artistic areas."
